Sunday 6th July saw the annual Ann Flambard club swim down at Harve Des Pas. We saw 2 joint winners share the trophy this year. A massive well done to Piers Willis & Jack Duncan. Pictures in the Junior Section.
Jersey to France solo swim - Michelle Macy
A truly fanastic day of swimming yesterday culminated in 2 cracking swims taking place between Jersey & France.
Michelle Macy, 37 and an analyst for Nike, lives in Oregon USA and became the first USA Lady to swim the course from La Coupe to St Germaine sur plage. The other USA swimmer is Tim Lawrence who swam in 2006.
Michelle last year became the 2nd woman to complete the “Oceans 7 “ Challenge - this includes the 7 major oceans - English Channel, Catalina Challenge (California) Cook Straits (New Zealand), Tsugaru Channel (Japan),Straits of Gibralta, Molokai Channel (Hawaii) and finally, the North Channel (Scotland to Ireland).
This Jersey to France swim is an 18 mile swim and the existing Ladies record was held by Alison Wood (Jersey) , set in 2010 of 8hrs and 7 mins. The mens record was broken last year by Mark Faure-Walker from the Serpentine Swim Club and still stands at 6hrs 38mins.
Michelle’s superb swim time was a superb 6hrs 42mins.
The Jersey Long Distance Swimming club is delighted to congratulate Michelle on her great swim today - and look forward to her added success next week when she hopes to swim around Jersey as well!..weather permitting…after a well deserved rest inbetween!
Le Grande Nag'gie - St Malo to Jersey Relay
At 1345 GMT we had 6 local swimmers - Ian Jones, Nick Dotter, Graeme Lowe, Dave Le Clercq, Wendy Trehiou & Neil Faudemer - undertake a gruelling 36 mile swim between St Malo and Jersey. The swim is called 'La Grande Nag'gie' and had never been undertaken before. They finished a fantastic 18 hours and 9 mins later.
Starting on July 7th at Parame beach on the outskirts of St Malo, the intrepid 11 with swimmers and support crew pioneered the swim alongside escort boat Lionheart, skippered by Mathew Clarke. The charity crossing was performed on behalf of 3 Jersey charities: Macmillan Jersey, Brighter Futures, and Channel island air search.
Massive congratulations to all the swimmers on a truly remarkable day of swimming. Social media was buzzing with updates on both swims. As always thanks goes to not just the swimmers, but the kayakers, navigators, organisers and everyone else involved in making these swims a success. Well done to you all!!

Well done to all who attended the swim in very overcast and lumpy conditions - not what we have been used to recently with the fine weather! And a special well done to Zahra Bell & Piers Willis for braving the conditions and being awarded the De Caux trophy for 2014 as the youngest swimmers to take part. Well done to the both of you! Apologies for the delay in getting this update out, but as im sure your all on the facebook group you will be aware that we had 2 solo Round Jersey swims this week!
On Tuesday Emma France from Guildford in the UK swam around Jersey in 11 hrs 46 minutes. Emma had a very tough swim as the conditions were not so favourable ..but after her amazingly 'secret' Channel swim she threw in last Tuesday which surprised us all, she did an amazing job and finished smiling! On the boat with Emma was her partner Paul James and Cliff Golding also from the UK but a life member and full supporter of the JLDSC.
On Wednesday , Michelle Macy from Oregon in the USA broke the round island solo swim record. She finished in an amazing 9hrs 29mins and 11 seconds. The existing record was set in 2011 by Julianne Galloway, another USA swimmer now living in New Jersey - she finished in 9 hrs 32 mins after she broke Alison Streeters 22 year old record! She is also the first swimmer to come over and complete the Jersey to France & Round Jersey solos in one 'hit'! (see 8th July entry for J2F!)
Michelle travelled to jersey with her training buddy Erin Stone who was on the boat for Jersey to France and then also kayaked around Jersey for Michelle yesterday. Also on her boat yesterday was Adrian Follain and Charlotte Vernon (14) both also in training for round Jersey Solo swims next month and Sally Minty-Gravett was her observer for both Emma & Michelle swims.
HUGE thanks to Mick le Guilcher who piloted both swims in the Club vessel Sea Swimmer 2.
PS - Dont forget club swim this Sunday - 1245 @ Mikes slip. See you there!
31/07 - We had 2 swims going Round Jersey. The first swim out was Team Rookeez - Henry Clark, Charlotte Vernon, Dominic Holley, Harry Willis and Zahra Bell who set off at 0746, and were swimming to raise funds for MS Jersey. The second swim out a few mins later was our very own committee member Alice Harvey who was attempting her 2nd RJ swim (first in 2006). After a fantastic day of hard swimming by all 6 swimmers, Team Rookeez finished in an awesome time of 11hrs 10mins. Alice finished even quicker in a time of 10hrs 33 mins - smashing her previous best by 1hr 8mins!
Massive thanks to Richard Stephens on Coccinelle who piloted the Rookeez with assistance from Sally Minty-Gravett. Sea swimmer 2 was piloted by Mick le Guilcher and Martin Powell, and on board looking after Alice was Chantelle Le Guilcher, Tasmin Powell and Alana Powell.
30/07 - Liz Rycroft (UK) was the next intrepid swimmer into the water as she completed her Round Jersey Solo in 11hrs 12 mins. What a cracking swim!! Sea Swimmer 2 was piloted by Mick le Guilcher and Adrian Follain and her crew was her sister Rebecca Rycroft and friend Hannah.
23/07 - Christine Addison (UK) overcame some tough conditions and put in a fantastically gutsy swim, in completing her Jersey to France solo in a time of 14 hrs 24 mins. Massive congrats to Christine!
20/07 - WELL DONE to our New Masters champions today Sarah Pierce and Cliff Golding. Big well done to all the youngsters who all swam the 2 way from Mikes slip to Archirondel and back too! Especially Dominic Holley Harry Willis Zahra Bell and Piers Willis ( at 9 the youngest swimmer of the day)! Great day - great conditions - great swims and WONDERFUL cakes afterwards too! Thanks Korina Powell and Martin for organising the swim today.

Rounding off a fantastic couple of weeks we had Ian Holt (UK) who attempted the Round Jersey solo swim. Unfortunately for Ian he could not complete the swim, and stopped at 9 hours just by Kempt Tower St Ouen, but Ian was chuffed with his attempt so massive well done to Ian for this swim. Even more so we learned afterwards that 2 years ago he broke his neck, and from 2 hours in his swim, he was suffering nerve pain in his left arm. Therefore Ians swim was a gutsy effort and we hope that he might be back to complete the swim.

21/08/2014 - The 3 musketeers...
So what a day we had at sea yesterday. 3 swimmers, 2 routes & 1 destination - France. Chantelle & Cliff were first off at 0744am from La Coupe and headed out in fairly tough conditions. Both swimmers put in a fantastic shift and worked hard to make there way over to France in fantastic times of 8hrs 7 mins & 9hrs 40mins respectively. Chantelle Rose on board for Cliff described the open water as a 'washing machine' at times so it most definately wasn't an easy swim. The at 1043 Lucinda, started her swim also from La Coupe but took a different route eventually finishing just off Cap de Carteret in an amazing time of 6hrs 50 mins, just missing the fastest female time ever by 8 mins.
A massive thanks to the support crews across the 3 boats of Mick Le Guilcher, Neil Faudemer & Matthew Clarke for piloting, Sally, Wendy, Sarah, Chantelle (Rose), Alana, Claude, Adrian & Martin for crewing / kayaking. What a great day to be involved with the JLDSC!

Good news, our club kit has been finalised and we are now taking orders.
Many thanks to Alice and Chantelle for designing it.
Below is the pdf of the available kit and prices. There is also a size guide at the bottom. The pdf was made before the greasy man logo was added but several of the committee have it so you can see what it looks like on the kit. Also between committee we have various sizes that people can try on.
The price for the hoodie is £28 and the polo shirt is £21. (They are wrong on the pdf)
There is a minimum order number so we will get a batch together before ordering. We will also need the money with your order.
You can place your order with either Marilyn ([email protected]) or Jenny ([email protected]).
